THE ARTS are ALIVE and WELL!

Here's a few photos of some of the Arts activities we've been doing in the last couple of weeks! 

Here we are playing the ukulele  during the Music Residency with Mark and Cathy from the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. These photos were in the Gisborne Herald!

                  We had Room 7 with us one morning and designed 
                                         these shoes! 

RATS!

We were disgusted when after Matai's Mum showed us a video of rats playing in the flax outside the school...not too far from Room 10! When we snuck over to have a look the people in the front of the line saw a cat (maybe Matai's cat!) with a rat in it's mouth!!! We designed our own rat traps, did some reading about rats on the ipads and then wrote some poems.

Technology Challenge

The challenge....

We got 6 plastic cups and 4 pieces of string. 
The challenge was to stack the cups without anyone touching the cups AT ALL! 

We talked about what makes a GREAT TEAM before we started and WOW...we had some amazing team work! 

THIS WAS THE WINNING TEAM! Tristin had a fantastic idea and working together this team nailed the challenge!

Ana from the Red Cross came and taught us about First Aid.

We are doing some Aztec Sun art for our calendars. Malo, Bay and Josefa are working with 'cool' colours.

Our beautiful beach!

It was such an amazing day last Thursday....we decided to get outside and enjoy the beach! We talked about how going to school in such a beautiful place helps us to have a positive attitude. We did some fitness and then played and chatted.

Last week we learnt how to get onto our school email accounts and also used devices to do some research about blue whales and another sea animal of our own choice. We had to work together and help each other! 

Here's the beginning of the report Sophie wrote after finding out about the Blue Whale. 

We all wrote some keywords down while we were reading about the Blue Whale. This made it easy to write our reports. This is Olivia's planning.

Yoga with Jade!

We have now had two fantastic sessions of yoga with China's Mum, Jade. Have a look at some of the exercises we have tried - you might like to try them at home. 

Sharing our ideas in different ways!

This term we are learning how to share our ideas in different ways. We have been using an app called "Explain Everything" (I'm still working out how to share those on the blog!) and we have also been drawing diagrams and bubble maps to share our ideas. Some people in our class love using pictures to share their ideas and are really good at it! 

We watched a good utube clip to learn about the Water Cycle and then drew these diagrams.
