The Daily 5 and INQUIRY LEARNING

This week we introduced "Working on Writing" to our "Daily 5." This is a chance for children to work on writing independently. The loved being able to choose where they wrote and what they wrote about!

Rosie, Nellie and William wrote at their tables. They used their 'journals' to write in.

Tay was comfy on the floor in our library area.

Sennen 'got started right away' and 'stayed in one spot' which are two of our Working on Writing goals. He stretched out on the couch and wrote an awesome story about Minecraft.

Mac had a great sport lying on the floor. He took awhile to get started and shared his frustrations afterwards. He couldn't think what to write about. There were some other people in the class who had the same problem. We'll be doing some work to help our writers with ideas this week.

We started the week with a BANG and had a BUS STOP activity to learning more about how our brains work.
This group are looking at MIND MAPS to learn about things we can do to stay relaxed so that our brains work well.
This group are watching a video and "The Fantastic Elastic brain!"

Sophie and Miriam's group are playing a game to see how well they can remember things. Some people in our class could only remember 3 things. We talked about how we need to work to improve this. Ms McVey learnt that when she says, "Get your book bag, put your chair up, tidy your area and sit on the mat." it is no wonder some people juts 'sit on the mat' and can't think what to do! :)

Learning about the brain by reading books.

Some scientist think that we learn best when we are moving and doing! We tried to learn how to count to 10 in Japanese using action to help us to remember.
